Siddharthnagar: Even after 75 years of independence, the British landholdings are still intact in Siddharthnagar district. Their land is still recorded in government documents. After a thorough search conducted by the administration over the past three years, nearly 150 hectares of land in 45 villages of the district have been found to be registered in the name of the British. The authorities have taken strict action in this regard and issued directives for further investigation. The process of converting this land into government property has now begun.

District Magistrate Pawan Kumar Agrawal explained that if anyone has occupied government land or if the land is registered under the British name, it is being investigated and will be taken into possession for future use.

Approximately 150 hectares of land in 45 revenue villages of the Sadar tehsil have been marked as registered under the British name. This land is recorded under category 3 (leaseholders). It will be eliminated from category 3 and registered under category 6 (state government). The report has been submitted by the Tehsildar to senior officials. Many gardens in this category are registered under the British name, and some land has been allocated to Nepali residents who do not have ancestral residence here.

Even today, British landholdings are recorded in approximately 45 villages of the Sadar tehsil of Siddharthnagar district. Some individuals have also occupied this land. After inspecting all the revenue records, approximately 150 hectares of land have been marked, and several plots have been allocated. The government is preparing to remove the names of these leaseholders.

Land Found in These Villages:

Sadar tehsil has marked the following villages: Babhani, Madhubani, Dumdumwa, Chaurasi, Chhitrapaar, Rasiyaval Khurd, Gulriha, Bargadwa, Paraanakar, Tugaura, Tharauli, Dhaurikuiyan, Pipra Nayak, Patni Jungle, Semra Mishra, Patsiya, Badgo, Ajgara, Chorai, Parti Bazaar, Chauri Devpur Grant, Mahadeiya, Pachma, Kathahi, Bardaha, Nawadaundi, Sugahi, Mahua Mafi, Pokharbhittawa, Beltikar, Devpur Masjidiya, Karmaha, Belwa, Patkhauli, Barrohiya, Khalasa, Karuaval Kala, Mahnaga, Ramwapur, Kaolpur Grant, Khakhara, Gadhamarwa, Kolhua, and Rudrapur.

Tehsildar Devendra Mani Tripathi stated that a search has been conducted for land that is still registered under the British name as per the government’s instructions. The Sadar tehsil has identified 45 such plots, many of which are registered under the British name or the names of Nepali residents. The report has been sent to the government through the SDM.
