New Delhi: Residents of Delhi aised concerns on Saturday about possible gas leaks in their area, experiencing eye irritation and difficulty breathing. They reached out to Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other authorities, urging them to investigate the matter. Some individuals posted on X, mentioning specific locations such as ITO, Kashmiri Gate, and Laxmi Nagar where people were affected by the alleged gas leak. Panic ensued as residents awaited official responses.
However, it was later discovered that an anti-riot drill had taken place in the Yamuna Khadar area during the farmers’ protest, which caused confusion among locals. Tear shells used during the drill were mistaken for a gas leak. Tear shells are typically employed by law enforcement to disperse crowds during large-scale protests or conflicts.
Authorities are taking necessary precautions in light of the ongoing protests. Increased security measures and barricades have been implemented in Ambala ahead of the scheduled farmers’ march to Delhi on February 13. In certain districts of Haryana, mobile internet services, bulk SMS, and dongle services have been temporarily suspended from February 11 to February 13, with the exception of voice calls.
Prior to the proposed “Delhi Chalo” march by farmers on February 13, Haryana Police has deployed 50 companies of central paramilitary forces to maintain law and order in the state. Officials have made it clear that they will not tolerate any disturbances to peace and harmony.
