The Haryana government has sealed the border with Punjab at Shambhu border on the National Highway (NH-44) in anticipation of farmers’ movement towards Delhi on February 13. The Sadopur border on Ambala-Chandigarh road is still operational but heavily guarded by the police. Concrete barriers have been placed on the NH-44, causing inconvenience to commuters. Vehicles traveling from Punjab to Ambala and Delhi have been forced to take alternative routes. The government did not provide any prior announcement about the border closure. Commuters expressed frustration and voiced concerns about missing flights and being stuck in traffic. People traveling by bus were seen walking with their luggage towards Ambala. The closure was implemented at noon, and alternative routes were suggested by the Haryana police. The Patiala deputy commissioner stated that traffic from Shambhu to Ambala should be diverted through different routes. The director general of police and other officials visited the Shambhu border to observe the sealing process. The IGP of Ambala emphasized that the farmers’ march from Punjab to Delhi was illegal, and Section 144 was imposed. The official release mentioned the preparations made by the police administration for the farmers’ march. The DGP obtained information about the preparations from the district administration. The NHAI project director informed the DGP about the jersey barricades installed on the NH-44. Mock drills were conducted by the district administration at Ambala police lines.
