In anticipation of the ‘Delhi Chalo March’ by farmers on February 13, prohibitory orders under section 144, which prohibit large gatherings, were implemented in the northeast district of the national capital, as stated by an official. The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey, mentioned that some farmer organizations have called upon their supporters to assemble and march to Delhi to demand law on Minimum Support Price (MSP). The order further highlighted the possibility of farmers and their supporters mobilizing from various districts, including Haryana, Punjab, UP, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, MP, and other areas. To maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents, a precautionary order of section 144 was deemed necessary to protect life and property in the area. The order specified various points, such as prohibiting public gatherings at Delhi borders and nearby areas, restricting the entry of vehicles carrying protestors from Uttar Pradesh, and disallowing the possession of arms. Measures have been taken by the police to fortify Delhi’s borders with Uttar Pradesh and Haryana by deploying over 5,000 security personnel and setting up barricades. The protest scheduled for February 13 aims to demand a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price for farmers’ produce, and proper security arrangements have been put in place to handle any law and order situation.
