Arvind Kejriwal, the convener of the AAP, stated on Sunday that the people of Delhi have decided that the party will win all seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital. He made this announcement while inaugurating a power plant in Punjab, stating that despite facing obstacles in Punjab and Delhi, the people of Delhi are determined to secure victory for the AAP in all seven seats.
Kejriwal’s statement comes amidst ongoing seat-sharing talks between the AAP and Congress, both of which are part of the INDIA bloc. This announcement raises the question of whether there is still room for negotiations in Delhi. However, it could also be seen as a pressure tactic by the AAP to push the Congress into finalizing seat allocations, as it is still too early to rule out a potential alliance between the two parties.
On February 10, the Delhi chief minister announced that the AAP will contest all 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and one seat in Chandigarh. Kejriwal appealed to the people to support the party and ensure victory in all 14 seats. The AAP’s highest decision-making body, the political affairs committee, will meet on February 13 to finalize candidates for Goa, Gujarat, and Haryana. The party has already unilaterally declared candidates for constituencies in Gujarat and Assam.
Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, a key negotiator within the INDIA bloc, expressed frustration with the ongoing talks and urged all parties to resolve any remaining issues regarding seat-sharing.
“We have mutually decided that the AAP and Congress will fight separately in Punjab for the Lok Sabha elections,” he added.
