The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress have officially declared a seat-sharing agreement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The AAP is set to compete for four out of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Under the agreement with other partners in the INDIA bloc, the Congress party will vie for three seats. The AAP will field candidates in East, West, and South Delhi, in addition to New Delhi, while the Congress will contest in North West, North East Delhi, and Chandi Chowk.
In Gujarat, the AAP will contest for the Bharuch and Bhavnagar seats. Meanwhile, the Congress will battle for nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Haryana, with one seat in Kurukshetra given to the AAP. Congress will go solo in Chandigarh and the two Lok Sabha seats in Goa. No seat-sharing arrangement has been announced for Punjab, although AAP had previously stated its intention to compete in all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies there.
The Congress emphasized that the seat-sharing deal was established to preserve democracy in the country.
“The seat-sharing agreement between AAP and Congress has been finalized. In Delhi, AAP and Congress will compete for four and three seats respectively. In Haryana, AAP will contest one seat, while Congress will vie for the remaining nine seats. In Gujarat, AAP will compete for two seats, while Congress will contest the rest,” stated Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj regarding the seat-sharing agreement.
Recently, Congress and Samajwadi Party finalized their agreement in Uttar Pradesh. Congress will compete for 17 out of the state’s 80 seats, while Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and regional allies will contest the remaining 63. This marks the first major seat-sharing agreement for the INDIA Bloc.
