Patna, January 24, 2024: Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar today offered floral tributes at the Jananayak Karpoori Thakur Smriti Bhavan in Karpoori Gram, Samastipur district, on the statue of Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur.
In the organized interfaith prayer meeting on this occasion, Chief Minister participated, and there, he offered flowers to the oil portrait of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur. Subsequently, the Chief Minister unveiled the commemorative souvenir book related to the life of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur.
Following this, the Chief Minister visited the Gaokul-Karpoori-Fuleshwari Mahavidyalaya and presented floral tributes to the statue of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, along with offering tributes to the statue of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur in the courtyard of Prabhavati Ramdulari Inter College. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for the Panchayat Government building in Karpoori Gram.
On this occasion, the son of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, Member of Parliament Shri Ramnath Thakur, MLA Shri Ajay Kumar, MLA Shri Akhtarul Islam Shahin, along with other public representatives, members of Jananayak Karpoori Thakur’s family, District Magistrate Shri Manish Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police in Darbhanga District Shri Babu Ram, Samastipur District Collector Shri Yogendra Singh, and Samastipur District Police Chief Shri Vinay Tiwari, along with other officials and dignitaries were present.
On the occasion of the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, after participating in the program held in their village, the Chief Minister, while speaking to the journalists, expressed that the demand for conferring Bharat Ratna to Jananayak Karpoori Thakur has been ongoing since 2007 until 2023. He learned last night that Bharat Ratna has been conferred upon Jananayak Karpoori Thakur, which is a matter of great joy. He expressed gratitude to the Central Government and the Prime Minister for this. Jananayak Karpoori Thakur worked for the welfare of the poor, backward classes, and every section of society. He made significant contributions in the field of education and advocated for prohibition. Unfortunately, he was later removed in an unjust manner. He was a strong supporter of reservations for the backward and extremely backward classes. His ideals continue to guide us, and we will carry forward his thoughts
