Leaders of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Lakhowal in Ludhiana, Punjab, announced on Saturday that they will not be participating in the ‘Delhi Chalo’ protest on February 13. However, they stated that they will oppose any manhandling of farmers during the march. Various farmer bodies are planning to march towards Delhi on the said date. BKU Lakhowal leaders also disclosed their strategy for the ‘Gramin Bharat Bandh’ protest scheduled for February 16. The protest, organized by different organizations including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), aims to press for pending demands in the farming sector. Harinder Singh Lakhowal, the general secretary of BKU Lakhowal, shared the strategy during a meeting in Ludhiana. He emphasized that while they do not support the SKM’s decision to march to Delhi on February 13, they will stand united with all farmer organizations if any manhandling occurs. Lakhowal accused the central government of favoring corporate houses, which is why different organizations are calling for a Bharat Bandh. He also criticized the deployment of police forces on the Punjab-Haryana border but expressed hope for the upcoming meeting on February 12. He concluded by urging the Punjab government to address the pending demands of the farmers in the state.
