Dehradun (Uttarakhand) (India), February 24: With the aim of ensuring a smooth, accessible, and safe Char Dham Yatra for devotees and tourists, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has set a two-month deadline for all departments to prepare the necessary infrastructure along the yatra route.
During a review of the preparations for the Char Dham Yatra at the Secretariat on Friday, the Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of making the upcoming yatra accident-free. She urged the promotion of online travel registration to enhance convenience for travelers and instructed for systematic management to prevent any inconvenience to the general public during VIP darshans. In response to concerns about road accidents and safety on the yatra route, Radha Raturi instructed District Magistrates to promptly submit proposals related to road safety measures, particularly the installation of crash barriers.
She also directed for an audit of road accidents that occur during the travel season. The Chief Secretary set a deadline of April 15 for officials to complete road repairs and other necessary works. The Public Works Department confirmed an allocation of Rs 600 crore for road safety initiatives this year. Raturi also called for provisions of restrooms and affordable food for drivers on travel routes, with operation of these facilities to be entrusted to local youth.
To combat online fraud in heli service registrations and ensure strict monitoring of cyber criminals, Radha Raturi mandated that heli services should only be booked through IRCTC.
She highlighted the Chief Minister’s directive for the smooth operation of travel arrangements during the assembly session in Gairsain in the summer. Ensuring top-notch health facilities for pilgrims throughout the Char Dham Yatra, Radha Raturi ordered the establishment of a roster of doctors on duty along the yatra routes. Additionally, she emphasized on the deployment of young doctors from outside in Uttarkashi, instead of assigning doctors from Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts to yatra duties.
Furthermore, arrangements were to be made for health screening of horses and mules at check posts along the yatra route, while measures were to be taken to discourage the use of plastic bottles through the Buy Back Bottle initiative and installation of water ATMs by the drinking water department.
