Elections 2024: In a major development for the Opposition in India, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have reached agreements on sharing seats in Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Chandigarh, and Goa for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May this year. During a press briefing, Congress general secretary Mukul Wasnik disclosed that AAP will field candidates in four seats in Delhi – New Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, and East Delhi, while Congress will contest in Chandni Chowk, North East, and North West Delhi.
In Haryana, Congress will vie for nine Lok Sabha seats, with AAP contesting in Kurukshetra. In Gujarat, AAP has secured Bhavnagar and Bharuch, while Congress will go solo in Chandigarh and two seats in Goa. There was no agreement made for seat-sharing in Punjab, where AAP had previously announced plans to contest in all 13 Lok Sabha constituencies. Both AAP and Congress will be contesting the elections under their respective party symbols, but in collaboration, as per Wasnik.
The seat arrangement was made to tackle the challenges facing Indian democracy, according to the Congress leader.
