Gujarat Clinches Fourth Consecutive ‘Best Performer State’ Award in National Startup Rankings
In a significant achievement, Gujarat has secured the prestigious “Best Performer State” award in the Startup Rankings-2022, announced on National Startup Day in New Delhi by Union Minister for Industries and Commerce, Shri Piyush Goyal. The accolade was received by senior officials from the Industries Department and Team Gujarat.
The recognition comes as a result of the state’s consistent commitment to fostering a thriving entrepreneurial ecosystem, particularly under the ‘Startup India’ initiative launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on January 16, 2016. The initiative, aimed at cultivating the entrepreneurial spirit among the youth, has propelled India to become the world’s largest startup hub, boasting over 1 lakh 17 thousand validated startups, including 111 unicorns.
This commendable feat was acknowledged by Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, who extended congratulations to the State Government’s Industries Department and the entrepreneurs contributing to the state’s vibrant startup culture. The state has now clinched the “Best Performer State” award for the fourth consecutive time.
The evaluation, conducted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and Startup India, assessed 33 states and Union Territories across seven crucial reform areas, employing 25 action points for the 2022 ranking. Gujarat, with its pioneering Startup Policy launched in 2015, secured its position as a leader in the landscape.
With over 9200 recognized startups, the state has implemented various support measures, including the establishment of the ‘Gujarat Young Entrepreneurs Venture Fund’ with a fund of 1 thousand crores. Additional facilities such as sustenance allowance, infrastructure assistance, monitoring assistance, and marketing allowance contribute to the state’s favorable environment.
Under Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state government has demonstrated a commitment to overall and accelerated growth in startups. The recently concluded Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2024 featured a startup conclave and a seminar on startup and innovation, emphasizing the government’s dedication to the sector. The Education Department’s introduction of the ‘Student Startup and Innovation Policy 2.0’ further highlights the state’s efforts to instill entrepreneurial skills among students at the school education level.
Departments such as Science and Technology, Biotechnology, Higher, and Technical Education actively contribute to creating a supportive atmosphere for startups. State’s successful implementation of the Startup India program was previously honored with the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2017.
Under Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel’s leadership, the state government remains dedicated to enhancing the startup ecosystem by offering incubation support to aspiring entrepreneurs through ‘iCreate,’ solidifying it’s position as the top state in the ‘Startup Ranking’ for the fourth consecutive time.
