Haryana authorities have taken measures to seal the state’s border with Punjab at Shambhu near Ambala district in anticipation of the farmers’ planned ‘Delhi Chalo’ march on February 13. Concrete blocks, sandbags, barbed wire, and anti-riot vehicles have been placed on the road. Iron sheets have been installed on the sides of the road on the Ghaggar flyover to prevent protesters from removing police barricades. Water cannons and Vajra vehicles have been stationed, and the Ghaggar river bed has been dug up. Pedestrians are seen crossing the shallow stream on foot. Elaborate arrangements have also been made at the state’s borders with Punjab in Jind and Fatehabad districts. Concrete blocks and spike strips have been placed on the road in the Jakhal area in Fatehabad. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march, organized by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, is aimed to press the Centre into accepting various demands, including the enactment of a law to ensure a minimum support price (MSP) for crops. At the Tohana border, sand-laden containers, concrete barricades, and three layers of nails have been installed. In Jind, roads near the Haryana-Punjab border have been closed, and restrictions have been imposed on two other roads. Mobile internet services and bulk SMS have been suspended in seven districts from February 11 to 13. The Centre has invited the farmers for another meeting on February 12. The Haryana Police have issued a traffic advisory, suggesting alternative routes for commuters.
