In an official statement released on Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III of Britain, who is 75 years old, has been diagnosed with a type of cancer. Due to this unexpected development, the monarch will be temporarily limiting his public engagements.
This news comes after the king’s recent hospital stay of three nights, during which he underwent a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate. However, additional tests during this time revealed a separate health concern, leading to the diagnosis of cancer.
The palace did not disclose the specific type of cancer, but a source close to the royal family clarified that it is not related to the previous prostate issue.
This announcement comes just a week after both Kate and King Charles were released from a private London clinic following medical procedures.
King Charles took over the throne last year at the age of 74, succeeding his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, after her passing. He had previously undergone a surgery to remove a non-cancerous growth from his face in 2008.
