A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging the closure of Punjab and Haryana borders and the suspension of mobile SMS and Internet services in several districts of Haryana in relation to the ongoing farmers’ protest. The petitioner is urging for an immediate hearing to lift all restrictions imposed by the Haryana Government on the peaceful demonstrations by farmers. The PIL argues that the sealing of borders and shutdown of Internet services not only violate the rights of the farmers but also inconvenience the general public.
The petitioner, Uday Pratap Singh Kabroop, is demanding the prompt removal of the steps taken by the Haryana Government, including sealing the borders of Haryana and Punjab and suspending Internet services. The plea states that these measures not only infringe upon the rights of the farmers but also cause distress to the common citizens.
The PIL, which is set for an immediate hearing, calls for the Punjab and Haryana High Court to intervene and instruct the removal of these restrictions. The petitioner argues that these actions adversely affect the fundamental rights of the farmers and the general public.
The Haryana Government has taken stringent measures to curtail the farmers’ protest, including sealing borders and disrupting communication services. The PIL includes the Central Government, as well as the states of Haryana, Punjab, and Chandigarh, as respondents.
The High Court will conduct a hearing on this PIL Tuesday morning to address the urgent concerns raised by the petitioner and decide on the necessary course of action.
