The Punjab and Haryana High Court has ruled that Gurmit Ram Rahim, a convicted rapist, cannot be granted parole without the court’s permission. The court criticized the Haryana Government for allowing Ram Rahim multiple paroles and demanded details on other prisoners who have received similar treatment. The court was addressing a petition filed by the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) challenging the parole given to Ram Rahim by jail authorities. Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year sentence for rape, has been repeatedly granted parole despite facing serious charges. The court has requested information from the Haryana government on this matter.
