With less than a month remaining until the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, recent developments concerning the Sawai Mansingh Stadium and the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) office have captured attention. The Rajasthan State Sports Council (RSSC) has taken firm action by sealing both the historic stadium and the RCA office.
This decision came after the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) requested an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the RSSC. However, the RSSC opted not to grant the extension, resulting in the closure of the RCA office, as well as the renowned Sawai Mansingh Stadium and its affiliated cricket academy.
Sports Officer Karan Singh explained that the initial MoU concluded in July of last year, and the second MoU concluded on February 21. The process to renew the MoU was not completed, and a sum of Rs 34 crore is still outstanding.
Karan said “The MoU has expired. We have issued several notices to them. Rs 34 crore is owed, hence we are here to take possession (of the academy and stadium). The required procedures to renew the MoU were not carried out after it expired”.
The Sawai Mansingh Stadium is scheduled to host the Rajasthan Royals’ opening match against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24.
