Chandigarh, January 24 – In Haryana, concerted efforts are underway to foster the enrollment of new youth and female voters. Through a dedicated revision process of the voter list, a commendable total of 5,25,615 individuals have been successfully registered as new voters. Notably, this includes a record-breaking count of 1,41,290 youth voters aged 18-19. These newly registered voters are set to be honored on the occasion of National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2024, by the esteemed Haryana Chief Secretary, Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal, the Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, announced that a state-level Voter’s Day will be observed in Kurukshetra on January 25. He emphasized that all voters aged 18-19, as well as female voters who submitted their applications for registration between October 1, 2023, and December 9, 2023, have been selected through a random draw process.

Recognition for Youth and Women

Sh. Anurag Agarwal outlined the accolades for youth voters, mentioning that the top three voters will each receive a laptop, while the subsequent two will be awarded smartphones, and 100 voters will be granted pen drives. A similar reward structure will be extended to women. He elaborated that recipients of the pen drives will be felicitated by the respective Deputy Commissioners during their district-level Voter’s Day events.

Highlighting specific awardees, the Chief Electoral Officer revealed that in the 18-19 age group, Tanu from Panipat, Promila from Fatehabad, and Arvind from Mahendragarh will receive laptops, while Ashish from Fatehabad and Simran from Hisar will be honored with smartphones. Furthermore, in the women’s category, Kavita from Fatehabad, Monica and Nandini from Hisar will be bestowed with laptops, and Hemanshi from Kaithal and Ganvati from Rohtak will receive smartphones.

Sh. Anurag Agarwal underscored the imperative to bridge the gap in female voter registration among 18-19-year-olds, a discrepancy noted against census data. In light of this, initiatives were announced to stimulate their engagement in the democratic process through appealing incentives.

He clarified that the selection of winners among those who applied for registration between October 1, 2023, and December 9, 2023, in the 18-19 age bracket was facilitated using specialized software, with winners chosen through digital means. Notably, the final publication of the voter list for all 90 constituencies of the state occurred on January 22, 2024, at designated locations.

The Chief Electoral Officer further disclosed that the final voter list encompasses a total of 1.97 crore registered voters, comprising 1.05 crore males and 92.50 lakh females. Each voter’s photograph is included in the list, with identity cards issued accordingly. Presently, the state boasts 19,812 established polling stations, ensuring comprehensive electoral coverage.
