VVIP Uttar Pradesh led by Suresh Raina clinched victory in the first edition of the Indian Veterans Premier League (IVPL) after defeating Mumbai Champions in the final. They successfully chased down a challenging target of 215 runs in the championship match, with Pawan Negi playing a spectacular innings of 105 runs off 55 balls. Negi also claimed the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs in the season.
In the match, Phil Mustard and Peter Trego stood out as top scorers for Mumbai, with Mustard scoring 76 and Trego contributing an unbeaten 57. Abhishek Jhunjhunwala added 36 runs as Mumbai Champions posted a formidable total of 214 runs in their allotted 20 overs after losing the toss.
The chase appeared challenging for the UP team as they lost three wickets early on, including that of their captain Suresh Raina for just nine runs. However, Pawan Negi partnered with Parvinder Singh to form a crucial 113-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Singh scored 51 runs before departing, but Negi continued his aggressive batting display, delighting the fans with his powerful strokes.
Puneet Bisht provided valuable support to Negi in the middle overs, easing the pressure in the challenging chase. Negi reached his century towards the end as VVIP UP crossed the finish line in the final over to claim the title in the inaugural IVPL season. Negi was also awarded the player of the match for his exceptional innings after coming in to bat at number three.
