The Rajasthan High Court is scheduled to consider a petition tomorrow that challenges the compulsory implementation of surya namaskar in government schools across the state. The petition was filed by several Muslim organizations represented by the Muslim Forum, seeking to revoke the requirement for mass surya namaskar in schools starting from February 15. The AIMIM state general secretary, Kashif Zuberi, filed the petition, claiming that the government’s order is unconstitutional and violates Article 25 of the Constitution, which guarantees religious freedom for all citizens. The petition argues that the order infringes on citizens’ religious freedom as protected by the Constitution. The suryanamaskar program is set to commence on February 15 in conjunction with surya saptami. Jamiat Ulema e Hind, another organization, has urged students to boycott the program and refrain from attending schools on February 15. They argue that the mandatory program directly interferes with an individual’s religious freedom. On the other hand, the state education minister, Madan Dilawar, argues that surya namaskar is not a religious activity and highlights that numerous countries have embraced the namaskar as a form of yoga, which is globally celebrated on June 21. Health experts emphasize that surya namaskar provides a comprehensive workout that improves flexibility, strength, stamina, mental focus, and overall fitness through a series of posture and breathing exercises.
