Uttar Pradesh Rain Update: The weather in UP has shifted once again due to light to moderate rain accompanied by stormy winds. Hail has also been reported in various parts of UP, causing a drop in temperature by 2 to 5 degrees Celsius. While Kanpur experienced intermittent light rain on Saturday, the presence of dense clouds is evident as the minimum temperature rose from 11 to 18.4 degrees Celsius, marking a significant increase of 7.4 degrees. Winds blowing at speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour have resulted in crop destruction.
According to the Meteorological Department, the weather transformation is attributed to a western disturbance, combined with moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Rainfall accompanied by strong winds began on Friday night and continued into the following day. Some areas experienced heavy downpours, while others received light showers. Chandrashekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology in Kanpur recorded approximately 3.0 mm of rain by 6 pm on Saturday.
Crops Damaged by Intense Winds
The impact of the stormy winds on crops outweighed the damage caused by the rain. Strong winds led to the toppling of standing crops, resulting in significant losses. Mustard and gram crops were particularly affected, along with potato crops. Other crops such as soya-fenugreek, cabbage, and green coriander also suffered damage. While isolated areas around Kanpur experienced light hail, its impact was minimal.
Potential for Light Rain
According to CSA meteorologists, Monday is expected to remain overcast with the possibility of light to moderate rain and strong winds. Farmers may encounter challenges due to the windy conditions. A new western disturbance is forecasted to move towards the western Himalayan region starting from the night of March 5th, leading to a cloudy sky for the next four days.
Hailstorm Hits Western UP
The most powerful Western Disturbance of the winter season significantly impacted Western UP, including Meerut. Starting late Friday night, dusty winds and rain altered the weather pattern. Saturday witnessed continuous clouds and strong winds, followed by heavy hail in areas like Daurala, Rohta Road, and rural regions. Daurala specifically experienced dry hailstones.
