Vikramaditya Singh: Political crisis in Himachal Pradesh and link to Rajasthan

by Vikram Singh

Reading Time: 2 mins read

Vikramaditya Singh: A political crisis has emerged in Himachal Pradesh as the Congress government faces challenges. Several Congress MLAs have revolted against Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Khukhu, leading to PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh resigning from the government. Prior to his resignation, he had raised various allegations against the government, citing neglect of public welfare. However, instead of focusing on the political turmoil in Himachal, we will delve into Vikramaditya Singh’s link to Rajasthan.

Firstly, let’s explore who Vikramaditya Singh is?

Vikramaditya Singh, belonging to the Bushahr royal family of Himachal Pradesh, is the son of former CM Virbhadra Singh. Born on October 17, 1989, Vikramaditya completed his education at St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. His mother, Pratibha Singh, is also active in politics and is currently an MP from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency. Vikramaditya has served as the President of Himachal Pradesh Youth Congress and later became an MLA from Shimla Rural, eventually taking on the role of PWD Minister.

What is Vikramaditya’s connection to Rajasthan?

Vikramaditya Singh, hailing from the Bushahr royal family in Himachal Pradesh, tied the knot with Princess Sudarshana Chundawat, who belongs to the royal family of Amet in Rajasthan. Their marriage in March 2019 at Kanota Garh Palace in Dadaipur was attended by notable personalities from politics, industry, and entertainment. However, their marital bliss was short-lived, as Sudarshana Chundawat returned to her hometown of Udaipur after just a year and a half of marriage, citing discord in their relationship.

Sudarshana’s Complaint to the SP

Upon returning to Udaipur, Sudarshana Chundawat lodged a complaint with the SP, making serious allegations against Vikramaditya and his family members, which garnered public attention. In her complaint, Sudarshana alleged that her husband and mother-in-law subjected her to mistreatment.

Allegations in Sudarshana’s Complaint

According to reports, Sudarshana claimed in her complaint that Vikramaditya Singh was involved in an extramarital affair with another woman in Chandigarh whom he had promised to marry. When Sudarshana informed her mother-in-law, Pratibha Singh, about this, she allegedly dismissed it. Sudarshana further alleged that Pratibha informed her that Vikramaditya’s marriage to her was arranged as a solution based on a Pandit’s advice, as marrying the other woman would have resulted in Vikramaditya’s death. Sudarshana also accused Vikramaditya of drugging her along with his girlfriend, leading to a decline in her mental health.

Legal Proceedings and Recent Court Order

Following Virbhadra Singh’s passing on July 8, 2021, Vikramaditya and Pratibha allegedly evicted Sudarshana from their home. Subsequently, legal action was taken, and a family court in Udaipur issued an interim maintenance order this month, requiring Vikramaditya to provide Rs 4 lakh per month to Sudarshana until the case concludes. The final verdict is pending.
