The announcement of candidates from Rajasthan for the upcoming elections for three seats in the Rajya Sabha has not yet been made by either the Congress or the BJP. Both parties have not released the names of the candidates, even though the deadline for filing nominations is February 15th. The Congress has offered former party National President Sonia Gandhi to contest the Rajya Sabha elections. A proposal has been sent to Sonia Gandhi by the state Congress after making suggestions from PCC Chief Govind Singh Dotasra and opposition leader Tikaram Jully. The proposals have requested her to contest the Rajya Sabha elections.
Before sending the proposal to Sonia Gandhi, a meeting of senior party officials was held. After discussions by senior leaders, a demand was made to Sonia Gandhi to be appointed as a Rajya Sabha member from Rajasthan. After considering the opinions of legislators and senior leaders, separate proposals have been sent to Delhi by the party. However, there has been no response from Sonia Gandhi yet on whether she will contest the Rajya Sabha elections. After completing his term as Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh is not in the mood to contest elections again.
There will be elections for three seats in the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. The notification has already been issued two days ago and the nomination process is underway. No candidate has filed nominations by Monday, February 12th. The last date for nominations is February 15th. Congress and BJP can announce the names of their candidates on Tuesday, February 13th, or Wednesday, February 14th.
According to the number of MLAs from BJP and Congress, Congress is certain to win one seat and BJP is certain to win two seats. If Congress fields only one candidate and BJP fields two candidates, there will be no need for voting. If there are more than three candidates, there will be a direct election for all three seats. If any additional candidate files nominations, the voting will take place on February 27th.
